Sterling Silver Beads

Bali-style sterling silver beads come in many different shapes, styles and finishes.  Traditionally, Bali silver beads have been heavily antiqued (darkened) with an oxidation treatment.  The purpose of antiquing is to bring out the contrast in the elaborate silversmith work done on the typical bead.  Most Balinese beads are decorated with soldered wiring, and granulations. Antiquing makes these features stand out visually.

In recent years, Balinese silversmiths have begun to produce simpler designs, catering to customers seeking a more modern look.  Many of these newer designs are sold without antiquing and are typically described as "bright" or "shiny."
