Gold beads and findings are expensive, gold-plated sterling (gold vermeil) less so, but for the truly price-concscious person seeking the look of gold, the solution is gold-plated beads and findings.

We came out with a wide selection of beads and other items made with inexpensive metals (usually brass or copper), which were then electroplated with a very thin layer of 22kt or 24kt gold.  Although gold is very expensive, so little is used in the plating process that it is possible to make gold-plated beads and findings at a very low cost.
